Greg: This is PKF Texas the Entreprenuers Playbook, I’m Greg Price, Director of Consulting Solutions, and I am here again with Robin Tooms, the Vice President of Strategy for Savage. Robin welcome back to the playbook.
Robin: Thank you Greg.
Greg: So Robin I know you work with a lot of companies in the area and you see a lot of traits of what I would call “power drivers”. Can you share what you might think are some insights in that area?
Robin: Oh sure. The power drivers for succesful companies are really ones with a strong purpose, culture and structure. So really when you think of those three you have to start with the purpose first. Really getting the purpose right is what is going to make the money follow.
Greg: You know that sounds easy, but how do you get there?
Robin: Oh sure. Well first ask your self, what is it that my company values? How does this manifest itself in our day to day activities? Then you can say what is the true reason I am in business? And it’s just not to make money. And finally if you really had to look hard at it, like, what do I really want on my headstone? Because being in business, honestly, is not all about growing revenues and profits, that is not your true purpose of being in business, that is the benefit of being in business. So when you have a great purpose and you communicate it well, you will be successful.
