Report from Atlanta

by | Oct 27, 2006 | Microsoft Dynamics NAV

Well the first day of the Navision Partner conference, Directions 2006 was a great success.  It was a great day of learning, seeing all friends and partners and learning about the great product of Dynamics NAV (aka Navision).  The day started out with a keynote session led by Mogens Elsberg, the General Manager of Dynamics NAV.  Mogens told us that Dynamics NAV is the number one license selling application in the Dynamics suite of applications.

The main message from Mogens session was that version 5.0 will be released in two waves during 2007.  Version 5.0 is still expected to be released in early April of 2007 and will include some enhancements to the existing application.  Version 5.1 is expected to be released in early November 2007 and will have several features in the web parts area coming out at that time.  I will have a more formal release coming out soon on this subject.

Mogens session was followed by several breakout sessions that covered several different tracks:  executive, implementation, developer, and sales.  All the sessions I attended were very good and provided good feedback on features that are upcoming in the product.  One of the features I know will be of interest to several partners is the workflow approval process for POs, etc.

During lunch I had the pleasure of sitting with Todd Bergeson, the US Product Manager for Navision and we talked about several features of the product and the upcoming linkage with Sharepoint and the internet.

For the final event of the day their was a expo and reception put on by several ISV partners who have developed add-ons for the application.  We spoke to several people and gathered up documentation on their products.  During our user group meeting later in November, we will give you an overview on several of these ISV vendors.

I will update Day Two Activities tomorrow.
