Thang has a comprehensive experience servicing publicly owned and privately held companies within a variety of industries. He has experience working with oil and gas exploration and production, oil field services and energy-related manufacturing and distribution companies. He also serves private equity-backed enterprises and private equity funds with multi-tier partnership structure, as well as works with companies who have multi-state, federal and international activities.
Areas of taxation with specialized skills include GAAP financial reporting for ASC 740 (formerly known as FAS 109), multi-state and international tax filing, and tax consulting for mergers and acquisitions.
In addition to his compliance and consulting work, he is heavily involved with various firm initiatives, including training and development, technology implementation, and the coach and mentor program.

Why did you choose to be a CPA and/or advisor?
When I took the first accounting class in college, not only that I understood the concepts quickly, but I also enjoyed helping my classmates solving their problems. Being in a client-service industry gives me fulfillment and satisfaction.
What do you like best about helping clients?
I like to be a problem solver and a resource clients will reach out to for their business solutions. I enjoy taking on a complex issue, understand it, simplify it and make it less burdensome for everyone.
What energizes you about your job?
What excites me are the challenges from solving problems, learning Tax Codes and understanding how things come together. On any given day at work, I will not be satisfied until I learn a new thing.

PKF Texas offers me opportunities to learn and grow, as well as sharing my knowledge with others. I can easily find resources within the firm to help me with my career development. I'm in the driver's seat on a freeway without any speed limit.
Why are you passionate about serving this niche?
Working in middle market allows me to build relationships with business owners and decision makers. They trust us with our expertise in taxes and our commitment to deliver the best client service.
Where are you from?
I was born in a small beach town called Nha Trang, Vietnam, which is a small community in fishing and farming.
What do you do in your spare time?
All kinds of adventures and activities. I love road trips, national parks and traveling to places full of history and culture. I also enjoy learning and expanding my knowledge on all things.
What's your favorite season?
I love Spring and Fall - the kind of weather for hiking and being outside.
What's your favorite sport to follow?
I can only say this: the Texans, the Astros, the Rockets and then everything else.
Do you own any pets?
Race is a big dog at 75 - 80 lbs. He is the smartest dog I have ever met.

Ol' country songs. My playlist has not changed for 10 years and counting.

Nonfiction - I like personal finance and investing books written by John Bogle, Burton Malkiel and William Bernstein.
Fiction - I like John Grisham and Dan Brown novels.
