There are many ways to craft and format your resume in the job market, so what’s the best way to present yourself and stand out on paper for future internships and employers? Here are three quick tips from PKF Texas Talent Acquisition Specialist Emily Marsh.

Jen: PKF Texas is where you go to grow personally and professionally. We are dedicated to appreciating your career while making you feel appreciated all along the way. I’m Jen Lemanski and I’m here with Emily Marsh, our Talent Acquisition Specialist here at PKF Texas. Emily, welcome back.

Emily: Hi, Jen.

Using a Resume Template

Jen: So, you’ve shared that a lot of students ask you guys for advice on their resume, as well as some experienced hires. What are some tips that you give the students or give people when they’re asking for feedback on their resume?

Emily: Some quick tips that I would give for any sort of resume feedback. First and foremost, keep it clean. Keep it simple. If you have a hard time doing that, maybe use a template or something. The only thing with using a template, make sure that you fill out every part of the template.

Jen: Fill out the full template.

Emily: Yes. So, being able to use a template, that’s totally fine. That’s no points against you.

Proofreading from Someone You Trust

Emily: Being able to format it correctly, as well as having someone else proofread it. Having that second set of eyes really does help if there’s any sort of, anything that you may have missed, as well as making sure the verbiage is correct.

Present Tense vs. Past Tense

Emily: So, your current position is going to be in present tense, and then all of your past positions are going to be in past tense. If you have any questions further, you can reach out to the recruiting team at recruiting@pkftexas.com and we’ll be able to help you there.

Jen: Perfect. Well, I think we’d love to see some resumes and give some advice, kind of pay it forward a little bit.

Emily: Absolutely.

Jen: Great. Well, we’ll get you back to talk about some more recruiting topics soon. Sound good?

Emily: Sounds great.

Jen: When we say Approachable Advisors, we mean it. Our team is available and eager to assist you in your career. At PKF Texas we call that, appreciating you. Visit PKFTexas.com/Careers to learn more.
