Optimism about the Economy in 2011

by | Jan 20, 2011 | Observations

AccoutingWEB recently completed a survey of their readers, asking "What will the U.S. economy do in 2011."  Most of the readers had a positive outlook on the economy.  Only 8% of the respondents had a negative outlook on the economy.

This mirrors what I’m seeing and hearing in my interactions in the Houston business community.  People are cautiously optimistic for growth in the economy.  How much remains to be seen, but we seem to have started to turn a corner.

AccountingWEB Readers Optimistic about the Economy in 2011

Westerville, OH (January 18, 2011) – AccountingWEB, the leading online community  for accountants, has completed a recent survey to gain insight on what accounting professionals think the economy holds for them in 2011. Ninety-two percent of the AccountingWEB audience had a positive outlook regarding economic expansion in the coming year, while only 8 percent said economic conditions would worsen in 2011.

Readers were asked, “What will the U.S. economy do in 2011?” Nineteen percent of respondents said that the economy would improve significantly. Half (50 percent) believe that the economy will improve slightly. Twenty percent of readers who responded think that there will be little change from current conditions. Eight percent of respondents had a negative outlook for 2011 economic conditions – 3 percent think the economy will worsen slightly, and 5 percent believe that conditions will worsen significantly.

Publisher Rob Nance commented, “The optimistic view on the expansion of the U.S. economy from the AccountingWEB audience offers valuable insight from the professionals that have been pouring over business receipts and personal income tax filings over the past few down years. These financial experts are seeing improving conditions and hopeful signs in the public sector and amongst small business filers.”

The poll was conducted on AccountingWEB.com and LinkedIn from December 15, 2010 to January 15, 2011. The full results of the survey can be viewed here: http://www.accountingweb.com/accountingweb-polls by clicking on: What will the U.S. economy do in 2011?
